How does consular legalization work?
- Preliminary authentication – some documents (e.g. notarial deeds, diplomas) must first be confirmed by the issuing body or its supervising authority.
- Authentication by the Hungarian foreign service – the consular service confirms the signature and seal of the Hungarian authority.
- Legalization at the destination country's mission – the embassy or consulate accredited to Hungary legalizes the document.
- Translation – before or after legalization, as the destination country requires.
